I have two of them, four-inchers. In my misspent youth I was a salmon buyer in the wilds of Alaska. I lived on a float house in the middle of nowhere. The fishermen would fish all day and then pitch off their catch in the gloaming. I would write them a check and work into the night icing down the fish. That left all day for exploring my tiny cove in a skiff. I found the balls floating in the kelp. One of them has a crack in the "button" where it was cut off the glass blowing tube, and there are a couple of tablespoons of water inside. I picked up that ball twenty-eight years ago, and the water is still inside. Sorry if I'm being boring– glass fishing floats bring back memories.

It was a grim holiday weekend for some fishermen in Louisiana's Sportsman's Paradise. Fishermen returning to the Rigotlets Marina this morning brought back samples of tar balls they collected while out on Lake Pontchartrain according to the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation (ABC 26 Video Report).

Ann Rheams, Director of the Foundation, estimated to CNN that the amount of oil reaching the Eastern shore of Lake Pontchartrain near Slidell at under 100 barrels, with tar balls about the size of a silver dollar. Though hundreds of miles away, Hurricane Alex stalled Gulf Coast oil containment and the resulting storm systems have pushed the oil inwards.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham announced precautionary closures to fishing in parts of Orleans, St. Bernard, St. Tammany and Plaquemines parishes because reports of oil, easterly winds and high tides. Closures of recreational and commercial fishing are based on information from field biologists, staff and trajectory models from NOAA. Once reports of oil are received, the Department initiates a field survey and seafood testing. LDWLF updates maps of closed fishing areas daily as the oil pushes inward.

Coming during a popular holiday fishing weekend, today's closures are a gut punch to parishes fighting to keep the BP Oil Spill at bay.

In late May, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis asked the U.S. Coast Guard to approve the building a series of earthen berms and rock dikes in Lake Borgne from Alligator Bend to the East Pearl River. The Alligator Bend and Seven Lagoons Shoreline Projection Projects were originally developed to restore the coast as part of the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act, but can also prevent oil from encroaching into the marshland along Lake Borgne and can protect the lower Pontchartrain Basin.

“I was out at Fort Pike earlier this morning and can attest that our assets are in place and crews are picking up tar balls as quickly as the weather conditions permit,” Landrieu stated yesterday. “We have always asserted that this is going to be a long, tough slog, but I remain confident that every asset we have available is being deployed to protect the Lake.”

And finally, because 11 workers died in the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion, it seems important to remember them on this weekend of national reflection.

Planets The Opposite Than Universe

Looking for God in Outer Space Will Leave You Disappointed

In the latter half of the 20th century, there were two popular questions that the secular world would ask. The first one was “Is God dead?”. The second question was “Does God exist?”. Those were
questions that were asked by people that were questioning reality, and were extremely ignorant of biblical knowledge.

If I am going to ask a question, which I truly want to obtain the correct answer to, I’m going to inquire using the most reliable source of information. In this case, it should be a person well versed in God’s Word given to mankind, of which there are several experts (in this area).

Is God dead? God is a spirit. What can kill a spirit? Disease? Old age? We read in the Bible where Lucifer tried to overthrow (kill?) God, over 200 million years ago, and was unsuccessful. The supernatural realm is different from our natural realm, in as much as the supernatural has no beginning, while both will have no end. The infinite created the finite, with the intention of the finite living throughout eternity.

Does God exist? This is a more sensible question. What evidence do we have of His existence? Well, there is the history and continuation of the nation of Israel, to which He revealed Himself. There are those of present day mankind that have testified that God has given them His Spirit. Disregarding the notion “He lives in my heart”, let us ask a superior question. Where is Heaven? Now, with that question, all minds will be directed toward a physical address, as opposed to a “virtual” address.

What are urs favorite italian food ?

15 Jun 2010 In: food, italian food

Ligurian cuisine is similar to Piemontese, delicious dishes prepared from fresh ingredients with not a hint of spaghetti Bolognese, meatballs or lasagne.

Most traditional Ligurian restaurants offer starters (antipasti), which normally consist of a variety of small dishes such as roast peppers, salami, stuffed courgettes, Parma ham, aubergines etc. Then to follow a pasta
dish (Primo piatto), the most popular is trofie al pesto, which is Liguria's own pasta with its famous pesto sauce. Next (secondo piatto) is a choice of rabbit (my favourite cooked in wine and herbs), roast veal, wild boar stew, cima alla Genovese (A thin slice of veal taken from the animals stomach, sewn up on two sides to form a pocket, then stuffed with herbs, carrots, marjoram, eggs, cheese and offal, served cold. For desert if you can manage it, an assortment of semi-freddos and ice creams.

Having spent many years in Liguria and eating in too numerous restaurants too mention, having read the guidebooks of where to eat and being bitterly disappointed. I would like to let people know about some of the best restaurants near Savona, which have been consistently good, many off the beaten track but well worth the visit! Most recommended by our good friends and locals Mauro and Enza

My favourite is Locanda della Nonna in Ellera a few miles inland from Albisola Superiore, this is a family run restaurant with excellent food and service, there is no menu you will be served with a selection of antipasti, given a choice of 3 pasta dishes and 5 main courses. Everything is superb, but the favourite is the homemade ‘fior di latte' ice cream with a choice of chocolate or cherry sauce. Via Rosselli N. 29, Ellera, Tel 019 49009

Another favourite is Ristorante da Tina; this is situated on the outskirts of Savona in a town called Quiliano. This restaurant gives you 3 choices of antipasti, 2 choices of pasta and 3 choices of main course; yet again divine home made food including the pasta. This restaurant is very busy lunch and dinner you need to book. Piazza Caduti Partigiani 21, Quiliano. Tel 019 887116

Which are your favorite recipes?

For the second time in 12 months, Phoebe Price got into a vehicle crash, which left Mama Cutlets laid up in the hospital with injuries. PP was rattled something serious, because she even strike one signature pose for the paparazzi! Shit got real.

I mean, there were several firefighters there just waiting to be posed with, and PP ignored them completely. Usually when PP hears the click of a camera, her eyes light up like a drunk on Mardi Gras, her cutlets pop and she gives the paps everything she has! But not yesterday. Hmmm.

You've probably been releasing good thought balloons all day, so send one more to Mama Cutlets! Or at least stick a candle in a frozen cutlet.

Farmers Squawk Back At Chicken Cruelty Videos

The Humane Society of the United States has released some damning footage of egg farms, but farmers' organizations are firing back, claiming the group wants “to remove meat from our dinner tables and eventually — pets from our families.”

According to the video above (shot undercover at Iowa farms, and extremely difficult to watch), many chickens suffer gruesome injuries when being moved from cage to cage, or get stuck in the wires of battery cages and are trampled to death. P.J. Huffstutter of the LA Times writes that in addition to releasing the footage, the Humane Society is reaching out to children in 4-H to instruct them humane farming practices. The group has also stock in food companies to influence them to make more animal-friendly decisions, convincing Wendy's, IHOP, and Wal-Mart to switch to cage-free eggs. But farmers aren't happy that the interference, and they accuse the Humane Society of far more nefarious goals. Kansas Farm Bureau President Steve Baccus writes, “HSUS seeks to remove meat from our dinner tables, leather goods from our closets, animals from zoos and circuses and eventually — pets from our families.” He also says the group is “a powerful, well-funded activist organization pursuing what most reasonable observers would an extreme anti-animal agenda.”

But Baccus's words seem alarmist, given that the Humane Society's position is basically pretty moderate. The organization's president Wayne Pacelle stated Wednesday, “We're not asking for an end to the confinements of animals in buildings. We're asking they not be crammed into cages and crates barely than their bodies.” The Humane Society is not PETA — they run billboards of naked women, or ask that we all go vegan. And, perhaps as a result of their more modest approach, had major successes — Huffstutter mentions California's Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act (Prop. 2), which will ban restrictive cages for calves, hens, and sows. So farmers may be right to fear the Humane Society, insofar as changing their practices might make things difficult for them for a while. But far from being “anti-animal,” these changes will be good for livestock, and for humans who care about treating them well.

Firs thing, "contact" is misspelled in the inner page navigation.

Photographer, publisher and film director, Rankin established his reputation when he launched Dazed & Confused with his business partner Jefferson Hack in 1991.

ATLANTA, GA, March 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ — When independent photographer Tod Cohen of Charlottesville, VA decided to convert his business to a TSS Photography franchise, he didn't expect to triple his revenues in less than six years. The photography services he provides youth sports leagues and schools through TSS now account for nearly 70 percent of his business, and growing.

Cohen's success story is one that TSS Photography looks to replicate consistently in 2010 as the company attracts independent photographers looking for ways to supplement their existing services and capture a larger share of the highly fragmented photo industry.

“Today's digital age and limited access to capital have created an ultra-competitive environment in the photography sector,” said Joe Lindenmayer, President of TSS Photography. “As a result, we're attracting a growing number of independent business owners, like Tod Cohen, who are looking to benefit from the buying power and national recognition of the TSS brand. Because we've been in business for nearly 30 years, we know what it takes to keep our owners a step ahead of the competition, and we give them the tools to not just survive but thrive in any type of market.”

With more than 230 locations nationwide, TSS Photography offers a wide variety of photography services for schools, youth sports, corporations, church groups and other community organizations. TSS photographs more than 1.5 million students and athletes each year and continues to lead the photography market with innovative customer offerings, including life-size wall images called “WallPix,” photo memo boards and photo mug mates, all exclusive to TSS. Boasting a 36,000 square foot state-of-the art, fully digital photo lab in Atlanta, TSS also offers hundreds of novelty products that feature children's photos electronically formatted onto woven blankets, puzzles, mugs, trading cards, key chains and mocked-up magazine covers.

“By joining the TSS franchise system, I am now able to offer my clients a larger variety of quality photo products and programs that I simply couldn't support on my own,” said Cohen. “I also have peace of mind knowing that TSS headquarters continuously monitors trends in the industry and is able to develop the innovative products and programs to keep my business on the cutting edge of the photo industry.”

TSS Photography also increases its market share through alliances with national organizations and sports leagues such as the Babe Ruth League, Inc., National Recreation and Parks Association, and USA Football. In addition, TSS Photography has a history of deep-rooted philanthropy within the corporate culture, giving back to the community as a vital partner with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

To further support its franchisees, TSS Photography's leadership team provides training for each location in all areas of business, from sales, marketing, IT, and financial and business development. Most recently, TSS Photography introduced its Rolling Rewards program — until December 31, 2010, any new franchisee that signs on with TSS will receive a 50 percent credit for the cost of all their goods.
